Jake Davis (Russell Crowe), Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, undergoing a nervous breakdown, after a car accident killed his beloved wife, and he is left alone with a 5-year-old daughter Katie (Kylie Rogers). Jake's state of health does not allow it, that the man he was a child. Girl takes care of the immediate family. After years of adult Katie (Amanda Seyfried) trying to rebuild the relationship with his father and make up for lost years.
